The Çakmak Dam and May 19 Dam Basin Protection Plan and Special Provision Determination Studies Project
The project aims to protect and sustainably manage the Çakmak Dam Lake and 19 Mayıs Dam Lake, which are located within the borders of Samsun Province, as well as the water sources that feed these lakes, based on scientific data. The Çakmak Dam is a critical water source that provides drinking and usage water to the city center of Samsun, while the 19 Mayıs Dam supplies drinking water to Bafra, 19 Mayıs, Dereköy, Çetinkaya, Alaçam, and surrounding neighborhoods. This study will comprehensively evaluate the social, economic, physical, geological, hydrogeological, hydromorphological, ecological, and chemical characteristics of both dam basins; protection areas will be determined to preserve and improve the water quality and quantity of the basins, and a Protection Plan along with Special Provisions based on scientific analyses at the basin scale will be prepared.
Within the scope of this project, the following services will be provided by our personnel:
Collection and evaluation of existing data related to the Çakmak Dam and 19 Mayıs Dam basins,
Examination of the geological, hydrogeological, hydromorphological, and ecological characteristics of the basins through field studies and scientific analyses,
Measurement of water quality and quantity, identification of potential pollution sources, and conducting risk analyses,
Determining the basin protection areas (absolute, short-range, medium-range, long-range protection zones) using scientific methods,
Assessment of the impacts of social and economic structures on the basin,
Development of long-term water resources protection and improvement strategies for the basin,
Preparation of the Protection Plan and Special Provisions and submission to relevant institutions,
Preparation of technical reports, maps, and analysis documents.
