Istanbul Drinking Water and Sewerage Master Plan - Wastewater Treatment Plants Section

This project is preparing a Drinking Water and Sewage Master Plan for the city of Istanbul, which has a population of 16 million. The Wastewater Treatment section is being prepared by Environmental Solutions. The project has created a framework that will encourage the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to develop its sewage system and wastewater treatment and sludge disposal in an integrated and economical way. Firstly, the operating wastewater treatment facilities of ISKI have been examined, and the general operating status of the facilities and their current and future needs have been identified. Studies have been conducted on all existing traditional, advanced, and innovative treatment technologies in the literature and in national and international practices. Optional planning of wastewater treatment plants and preliminary designs of suitable systems have been made according to criteria such as wastewater flows, pollution loads, and treatment needs. In this study, a treated water disposal strategy has also been developed (maximizing reuse possibilities), and the most suitable solution has been proposed based on wastewater collection basins. Additionally, new developments in areas such as beneficial use of sewage sludge, reuse of treated wastewater, energy management, remote monitoring and control, etc., have also been taken into account.
